First, thanks to everyone who responded to my last post. I appreciate all the well-wishes and hugs. Second, the topic for this week was sensitive for me. Why? Because one wrong word from me on a subject could send the masses upon me and start a whole new rant through LJ. My post revolves around the Harry Potter fandom. Some of you may be familiar with it. If you are, you may already know about this. If you aren't, I'd encourage you to read. I'm not trying to scare people away from fandom. If you can find good people in it, then you'll love them for life, like I have. But fandom is a slippery slope. And sometimes it's hard to find your footing when you first start climbing.

I know a lot of people are using the election as hope, whether they voted for our new President-Elect or not. I'm not one for discussing politics like that.

You know how when you're a writer sometimes there are moments that in order to truly comprehend something, you just have to write it out? Or, in the same situation, you're a musician, and playing something, being able to hear it, helps?

Sometimes I have to do that. I don't know what to call it, but sometimes it just doesn't feel real until I write or play it. Sometimes I have to vocalize it, and even I've called my own voicemail, sobbing, and it felt better because I could say how I felt, listen to it, and it made it better.

Last week was a whirlwind of activity and busy-ness, hence me coming in right under the radar. But... writing! LJ Idol! Got it!

This was originally supposed to be just a post of funny stories on my other LJ, but half-way through it, I realized it really worked for this week’s topic. The timeline is going to be jumping all over the place, and mostly all revolved around a lawnmower. Why? Because I’m sick, medicated, and finding these stories, which are all completely true, all sorts of funny at the moment.

The first story is the most recent. My dad accidentally shredded his phone charger cord. This reminded me of the time he ran over one of his old cell phones with a lawnmower. It fell out of his pocket, got chopped to bits, and scattered all over the yard.

Our lawnmower is famous in our neighborhood, and these are the stories that commemorate its life. (See? Medicated.)

I've been writing like mad the past two days. My SF muse came back from vacation, and ironically, it came back when I started listening to "Disturbia" by Rihanna. Shut up. I like that song. I'm listening to it right now, as a matter of fact.

And here's my LJ Idol topic two. It took me a long time to write, mostly because it was a difficult topic for me.

So, I've watched shay_writes participate in LJ Idol the past few years, and this year I'm taking the plunge. She brainwashed convinced me that it would help me grow as a writer, and after seeing the topics, and reading a lot of the entries post the past few years, I've agreed.
